a few questions about the officialness of google and foogle(my term?) fake googles
Scroogle and blingo claim to use the google engine but blingo offers prizes and scroogle offers privacy protection.
I use a Mozilla customizegoogle tool that I find helpful. I can stream the pages so that I don't have go to next over and over. More from me soon, weep.
SNAIL-- a stenographer for you, yes? Want a transcripte of audio? I transcribe text in real time(as it is heard). Weep.

Hey all,

This question has been asked before on the first page of this thread but no one answered it. Actually it's been something that I've been trying to find out for a long while. I know a fair ole bit about SEO, but the answer to this question has always baffled me.

Lets say I know of a competitor who's ranking for a keyword.

competitorA.com is ranking for keywordA

How do I find out how many links it has pointing to its domain for that given keyword for its anchor text, title text, etc.

I tried doing this.

link:www.competitorA.com "KeywordA" but don't get the results I was looking for.

Can anyone shed some light in this issue please, I feel it's a really important to find out the EXACT number of links of that phrase people are managing to get their high rankings.

Thanks in advance.

A few things you might want to try with Google:

  1. Install the Google Toolbar so you can easily check PageRank, backlinks, similar sites, and sites with text containing the name of a given site.
  2. Enter just the word http for your search to find the top 1000 PageRanked sites (unfortunately, the listing stops near the beginning of the 7's).
  3. Hand type the following prefixes and note their utility:

    1. link:url Shows other pages with links to that url.
    2. related:url same as "what's related" on serps.
    3. site:domain restricts search results to the given domain.
    4. allinurl: shows only pages with all terms in the url.
    5. inurl: like allinurl, but only for the next query word.
    6. allintitle: shows only results with terms in title.
    7. intitle: similar to allintitle, but only for the next word. "intitle:webmasterworld google" finds only pages with webmasterworld in the title, and google anywhere on the page.
    8. cache:url will show the Google version of the passed url.
    9. info:url will show a page containing links to related searches, backlinks, and pages containing the url. This is the same as typing the url into the search box.
    10. spell: will spell check your query and search for it.
    11. stocks: will lookup the search query in a stock index.
    12. filetype: will restrict searches to that filetype. "-filetype:doc" to remove Microsoft word files.
    13. daterange: is supported in Julian date format only. 2452384 is an example of a Julian date.
    14. maps: If you enter a street address, a link to Yahoo Maps and to MapBlast will be presented.
    15. phone: enter anything that looks like a phone number to have a name and address displayed. Same is true for something that looks like an address (include a name and zip code)
    16. site:www.somesite.net "+www.somesite.+net"
(tells you how many pages of your site are indexed by google)
    17. allintext: searches only within text of pages, but not in the links or page title
    18. allinlinks: searches only within links, not text or title
  4. Check out Froogle and Google Catalogs.
  5. Google API
