A few things you might want to try with Google:

  1. Install the Google Toolbar so you can easily check PageRank, backlinks, similar sites, and sites with text containing the name of a given site.
  2. Enter just the word http for your search to find the top 1000 PageRanked sites (unfortunately, the listing stops near the beginning of the 7's).
  3. Hand type the following prefixes and note their utility:

    1. link:url Shows other pages with links to that url.
    2. related:url same as "what's related" on serps.
    3. site:domain restricts search results to the given domain.
    4. allinurl: shows only pages with all terms in the url.
    5. inurl: like allinurl, but only for the next query word.
    6. allintitle: shows only results with terms in title.
    7. intitle: similar to allintitle, but only for the next word. "intitle:webmasterworld google" finds only pages with webmasterworld in the title, and google anywhere on the page.
    8. cache:url will show the Google version of the passed url.
    9. info:url will show a page containing links to related searches, backlinks, and pages containing the url. This is the same as typing the url into the search box.
    10. spell: will spell check your query and search for it.
    11. stocks: will lookup the search query in a stock index.
    12. filetype: will restrict searches to that filetype. "-filetype:doc" to remove Microsoft word files.
    13. daterange: is supported in Julian date format only. 2452384 is an example of a Julian date.
    14. maps: If you enter a street address, a link to Yahoo Maps and to MapBlast will be presented.
    15. phone: enter anything that looks like a phone number to have a name and address displayed. Same is true for something that looks like an address (include a name and zip code)
    16. site:www.somesite.net "+www.somesite.+net"
(tells you how many pages of your site are indexed by google)
    17. allintext: searches only within text of pages, but not in the links or page title
    18. allinlinks: searches only within links, not text or title
  4. Check out Froogle and Google Catalogs.
  5. Google API

Great post!

A good way to use the allinurl command is to find out how many of your sites' pages have been indexed by Google (or of other sites).

like this:
Quote:
allinurl: ozzu.com

(at time of post, this gave 1 of 41900 pages)

I usually post something like this to find out how many pages a site has indexed:

Code: [ Download ] [ Select ]
site:www.ozzu.com + "www.ozzu." + ".com"

This gave me 55,600 pages found. This is letter 3p as described above.

here's some tools for site analysis: http://www.webconfs.com/index.php

I know this site is posted somewhere else in the forum but a recent update was made to the google backlink checker that will analyze the text used for incomming links....enjoy

Here's another one to help with page analysis. This will help you to see your site how google does (more specifically, how google sees the links).

Can someone help with the syntax for allinlinks:

I'm familar with allinanchor: used like this:
allinanchor:keyword phrase site:www.mysite.com

Do not put an http:// in your site:url or it will fail.

When I try to use allinlinks: this way I don't get any results. I get 73 for allinanchor:

Also does anyone know if there is a difference....beteween allinanchor and allinlinks. I'm using this in google.

Basically, the way that google ranks your site has to do with 1 thing and 1 thing only: How many pages in google's listing link to your site in one way or another. The more sites which link back to you, the higher the ranking you'll be for Google.

Helix_dnb - that is partially true. The more inbound links you have (and the higher quality) the more credibility Google will see that your site has, and potentially allow it to rank high for certain terms. However, having a good PageRank is only one of the factors needed to get ranked high for a term. If your website has no content, I really doubt you are going to get many good rankings.

http://www.somesite.com
http://somesite.com

Are two different URLs, two different sites as far as Google's concerned.

The difference between somesite.com and http://www.somesite.com is exactly the same as the difference between http://www.somesite.com, ftp.somesite.com, mail.somesite.com, anything.somesite.com or http://www.someothersite.com.

Like I said, as far as Google's concerned, they're all different hostnames (even if they point to the same IP address).
