There is no magic formular for ranking well. Backlinks are just one of many many factors..

Read the forum, impliment what others have suggested over the years, and hope for the best.

a robots.txt can in no way help your site get indexed.
It's purpose is to stop pages being indexed.

you can do one thing.
look for the top ranked site and compare it with your site . or comapare with your page which you want to be get listed.
optimise your page and concentrate on only one product , because in this new internet time there is a lot of competition.

you can also see the keywords and metatags that the top listed site is using.

god help me and you too :)

Two of my mambo/joomla site appear on first page for their own keywords.

1.Thaisinging.com for broad key word (In thai language: sing, singing)

2.ausife.org for keyword "ausife" (I think this is normal since the keyword is niche)

I believe that these mambo/joomla platform really come with good SEO. You don't have to do much work.. only put more content in, then it shuold roll :)

I dont believe mambo and joomla are great for SEO actually.. you need to mod it for SEO friendliness too.

so.. i supposed it was the way I did link exchange to many sites at the start.. it did help though.. . now http://www.thaisinging.com appear first page, first item for keyword: singing (in thai). I'm a happy man..

Now I know how search engine can bring traffic.. really paid off after hard work.

i'm getting indexed by other SE too as a result. my problem is that page view is mostly only 1. hehe

Must put more stuff in.

now I get 100+UIP. Anybody could suggest me how could I make it 2500+

That's my goal.. for now..

Adding fresh, unique content regularly will help a lot.

To list your site on first page, select targeted keywords & use those targeted keywords in your content. Optimize your site properly, update content regularly & try to get backlinks from relevant sites. Submit your site in directories. All these methods will help you in getting high SERP.

In my honest opinion optimising your website is the first step, to do this you need to consider keywords and who you are going to aim your site at.

If your planning on selling products online then I wouldn't recommending optimising for your top keyword, for example if you want to promote a website that sells printers then you should never optimise your site for the keyword "printers" this is simply because of the amount of competition that thier is for that keyword, instead consider niche markets within this market, for example you could optimise your site for the keyword "HP colour printers", there is of course less competition for this keyword which means that your site would get more clicks and more people would buy from you.

If this isnt a sales site then you want to make your website as "sticky" as possible, you should make your site a go to resource, as for getting higher in the listings as many people have said back links play a key roll in getting a higher listing, find people who will trade links with you (make sure they have a PR of 4 or higher), the key to this is to find sites that compliment yours, add a link to the site you want to be affiliated with and then e-mail the webmaster - you have a higher chance of getting a link back if you have already added thier link to your site.

Perhaps if they reject your request and dont want to trade links but have a high PR you might consider paying them for the link - this is good if you want to build up your rankings quickly.

You also need to consider the text that they are using to link back to you, ensure that it contains your keyword.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

getting good position in google, yahoo and msn is not easy and also not very difficult too. 1st try to go for on the page optimization. write a robust content full of keywords. your title and description should be best match to your content. and then try to go for off the page optimization
