Based on my experience, placing images near text ads definitely increases CTR - probably because the images draw the visitors' attention to the ads. If you use this strategy, however, it's important to either leave some space between the images and the ads, or to place a border there - otherwise, you may be in violation of the ToS.

Hey Jeruk,

Based on what I can see on your home page, I don't see anything related to your images that would violate the ToS. I'm not as familiar with the Tos for Search, so I can't really comment on that. The only potential violation I see is the heading 'Topics' above the AdSense adlink unit - these are governed by the same ToS as text ads, and the ToS specifies that the only headings that can be directly above them are "sponsored links" and "advertisements". I don't think you probably have much to worry about here, but if you want to be absolutely safe, I'd advise changing the heading to one specified in the ToS, or ask AdSense Support to review your site and advise if there are any violations.

Nice looking site, by the way. :D

HTH,
Sam

yes it is mine.. I have been reading through some of the TOS thing in here too.. Afraid of being banned, I decide to email to google myself and ask if that site is alright.. what they replied was nothing but only ask me to put the border around my ads. hmm.. interesting..

I'm still curious about this.. but ofcourse.. don't wanna be banned..

May be I have to mail them again to make sure..

How about those 10bestweb... something domain.. that are doing adword/adsense abritrage. You could find their site's adword ads in almost every popular keyword search..

http://bestsportingsites.com/Sport/13/R ... nning.html

I think what they do is create so many website about almost every keywords.

They got everything that could be banned... poor content and also doing abritrage.

I've seen it for months already.. and it's still there.

The site in my signature is just to experiment.. I sure have other sites that everything is done correctly.

I think this is what everyone should do - it's always helpful to get input from other forum members as to compliance with ToS, but our opinions probably don't mean jack to Google. Getting direct input from them is not only more authoritative, but also provides recourse (in the form of written input) should there be issues with compliance down the road.

There are probably tens of thousands of these sites on the web, and this may always be the case. But I don't think their existence should be used to justify creating the same types of sites - ultimately, Google will hold each Webmaster accountable for his or her sites, regardless of what other sites are doing. :D

Thx for all your helpful infos. :)

I written to them for a second time, asking them is this site is alright to them.

This is their reply:

1st reply:.............................................................

Hello Kris,

Thank you for taking the time to email us.

After reviewing your site, http://webbuildstuff.com/thaitrade/, we've
found that the heading 'Best Car Websites' above your ad units is not
compliant with our policies.

As per our program policies ( http://www.google.com/adsense/policies ),
publishers may not label the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or
"advertisements." This includes any text directly above our ads that could
be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads. We ask that
you remove or change the heading, to avoid misleading users or creating
invalid clicks.

We appreciate your cooperation.

For additional questions, we encourage you to visit the AdSense Help
Center (http://www.google.com/adsense_help), our complete resource center
for all AdSense topics. Alternatively, feel free to post your question on
the forum just for AdSense publishers: the AdSense Help Group
(http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help).

Sincerely,

Arlene
The Google AdSense Team
..............................................
After changing the Heading to "sponsor link". I wrote to them again, this time asking them if my site still violates the TOS regarding "poor content" issue.

2nd reply
Hello Kris,

With regards to the content on your site, publishers may not display
AdSense ads on pages containing material copyrighted by third parties,
unless the copyright holder has granted permission.

If you have not received permission to reproduce the content from
edmunds.com on your site, displaying AdSense ads on this page would not be
permitted by our program policies.

For additional questions, we encourage you to visit the AdSense Help
Center (http://www.google.com/adsense_help), our complete resource center
for all AdSense topics. Alternatively, feel free to post your question on
the forum just for AdSense publishers: the AdSense Help Group
(http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help).

Sincerely,

Arlene
The Google AdSense Team

Hmm.. It seems like as long as the article down the page is given permission by the 3rd party.. it's ok.
(I used to have the article copied from another site with source code link back to them) I don't know but if it violates the poor content rule.. then they should have said so right away.

May be they wanna let it go and ban me at the end.. hehe

Anyway, I've got considerably income from adsense already (not from this car site) and I don't wanna be banned. So, I won't market this site anymore.. putting it off my signature.

Thx guys

Anyway, I still like to know more about those 10bestweb sites and their abritrage.. I will post the new topic for it :)

yeah champkris, better remove ads from this site if already are making money with others sites, don´t risk to be baned, because once you are ban, it´t "impossible" join Adsense again... :)

Post June 10th, 2006, 11:20 pm

If you are just using the site to test out placements etc ... you could register with another company (like clicksor or the many others) and measure the CTR on ads for the placement , blending etc and that way you would not risk any google TOS violations.
