Hi all,

Am I correct in that to find backlinks using Google you use
link: http://www.yoursite.com?

When I do that with my site it shows only 9 backlinks, if I do it like link:www.mysite.com (without the space), it show 17 backlinks, and when I do link: mysite.com (without the space and without the www) I get several hundred.

Why is this? Is this a canonicalization issue? When I go to my site and do the backlinks checker in the Google toolbar, it only shows the 17 links.

Thanks for any help!

Holly

I always wondered why link: or site: operators give different results using space or not using it - and still i don't know (prefer to use operators without space though).

Bigger number of links when you don't use "www" is no suprise - http://www.site.com is subdomain of site.com domain (you can have blog.site.com, forum.site.com which also are subdomains of site.com).

But for sure if you're looking for accurate results of backlinking use link: operator in Yahoo! rather than in Google which is not as accurate as Y!.
