about RAM dimms

hello.

i have a dell inspiron 8200 laptop and an ibm netvista pc.

i want to expand the ram in both computers but im new with this things. can i just go and buy any ram dimms and that will do it, or do i have to buy a specific type and if this is the case, how do i know which type.

Well, unfortunately you can't install any old ram into a machine and hope for the best, you have to install the same type of ram.

For example if your laptop uses PC3200 RAM, then that is what you need to look for and purchase more of.

So, the first step is finding out what type of RAM you have in both of your systems. For that I recommend installing some sort of System Information software such as CPU-Z or something similar, which can be found here:
