How do folks,

Decided seeing as I`m off to study computer software its about time I updated my XP system

##----[ CPU ]----##
Been looking into the 3200 & 3500 Venice Core CPU's.

Thing is, there supposedly isn't a great performance increase from the 3200 to the 3500. Is this correct ?

Thought I'd ask on here because I don't have nay first hand knowledge of using the AMD 64 and thought someone on here who has better knowledge of them may be able to help.

On another note, whats peoples thoughts of the 3800+ Venice ?

##----[ MOBO ]----##
Looking at either the Asus SLI Deluxe or the DFI Lanparty [ cannont find the Asus Premium yet ].

Is there still an issue with the NF4 chipset ?

Regards,

EDIT: 0o0o0, just found the A8N-SLI Premium on Misco.co.uk ... think I`ll get that :D

If your looking at the 3800+ venice get the 3700+ San Diego. Double the L2 Cache. SLI Premium roxors your soxors, and no problems so far.

I would go for the DFI Lanparty if you're going to overclock. It offers the most robust overclocking features available.

Hello there sir, from your post I was able to gauge that you might be someone with a clue. I happen to have a question about AMD Processors.

My Computer Includes:
    Amd Duron Processor @ 945Mhz
    272MB of Memory

When I go to run games like:
    Tony Hawk
    Nightfire

The computer will freeze or reboot. I try to install DirectX and the games will function for a while, but then I reboot and it happens all over again.

It sounds like you have onboard video. With the installation and the age of your computer I would say a driver conflict with that version of directx.

Invest in a spell checker for starters.

Change the motherboard if the CMOS battery still shows up dead.

Are you using windows 98?

LMAO, Shlby, you cracked me up with that translation post !!

As for the issue at hand ...

@ TomK

Thanks for the input but I`m not one for overclocking, I had just read some excellent reviews about it.

@ GT500Shlby

I will look into the 3700+ SD core, but being a student, I may not be able to "spalsh the cash" on such a hardcore ... core. On the mobo side, I was thinking, I`m not going to be gaming alot and therefore will not require two GPU's [ Yes, I hear all you hardcore gamers gasping in the background ].

With that in mind I was looking at the MSI K8N Neo4.

Does anyone have any other Mobo suggestions ?

@ usidda

Buy a new mobo !! Simple as, if replacing the CMOS battery does not stop the error message it may be your mobo is giving up the ghost.

From what I can see even on Froogle.co.uk, the Athlon 3700+ San Diego is £60 cheaper than the 3800+ Venice.

As for mobo's there is the Asus A8V-E Deluxe for £65 - £80 from what I can see on froogle.co.uk.

Yeah, the 3700+ is cheaper but either way, getting the either the 3700+ or the 3800+ is going to be a push on my crumby student budget ... unless someone want a kidney ?!

I really want the extra 512kb L2 Cache, but, I must restrain myself. Other components must be purchased aswell.

Would you reckomend the Asus A8V-E Deluxe over the MSI then ?

II would say MSI Neo4 Platinum over the Asus A8V-E Deluxe but that isn't very fair because the MSI has Sata 300 and the Asus only has Sata 150.

But the MSI seems to be the only board thats not SLI that has Sata 300 on it. If you so desire it.

If you don't care about the Sata 300 and Sata 150 is fine then:
Asus A8N-E and A8V-E, and the DFI nf4-DAGF.

Personally I would pick Asus, but I am biased! :-D

Newegg rules, but not available in UK. But even if I don't buy from them I shop them first to look at what I want. There stuff even beats the manufacturer webpages.
