well it 2 nights this week near 2 am my internet drops off to 100k dl speed max for a few hours and then go back.. i have a 15mb cable line coming in the house. i contacted my isp tech and they said this:

Quote:
"I have gone ahead and looked into your internet account for you about this
issue. From what I am able to see right off, there should be no problems on
this end. We have not put any sort of cap or throttle on your connection at all
and there is nothing in place that will throttle your connection once you hit a
certain download point. As far as why you are experiencing high latency on your
game, there are many reasons. One of the most common reasons that this type of
thing happens is when you are downloading using newsgroups or torrents as well.
All of these file sharing methods are VERY bandwidth intensive and will cause
slow speeds. The other main reason is because of a router issue. Try to plug in
direct to the modem for a while and see how the connection acts like that. If
you have anymore comments or inquires on this particular topic please feel free
to contact our technical support line at the number below.

Thank You,"

i have no torrents running or any download programs going and my computer is the only one on.

here is one of the speed tests seems to be avg. of them
Image

my dl speed is trash but my upload speed seems fine.

i have restarted the modem switch and computer.
i am watching the network from my computer and it at max jumps to 10kb/s and thats from msn and such.

the only thing i can think of is a bad modem or switch.. but they are not hot and work fine all day when they are being used the most.

here is the set up:
modem ----- switch ----- 3 computers

anyone have any kind of ideas what it could be or what i could check.. btw the 2 nights it happened were not in a row.

Sounds like it's the ISP. An ethernet card would not consistently go down at night and come back up during the day, however I have heard of this happening with ISPs.

Tell your ISP to send a tech over there and have 'em take a look.

Good luck :)

The diagnostics page of most cable modems is http://192.168.100.1

Things you can look for that will affect your service are:
-Receive power less than -10db
-Receive MER less than 32db
-Transmit power higher than 51db
-High resets or timeouts in the log
