My Ubuntu machine broke down when I was trying to upgrade it to 11.04... it doesn't turn on... nothing.

I put in a new formatted hard drive in there and tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 but the machine tells me there is no BIOS and it doesn't even recognize that I put in a CD in there. I'm not much of a computer person when it comes to this, but I'm pretty sure that is because of the lack of BIOS. Not sure where to go from here.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

1) I'm not exactly sure if it really is out of BIOS but it doesn't read the Ubuntu Installation CD when I turn it on with the CD in there.

2) If it doesn't have BIOS (and there is no working operating system on it) how do I instal bios OR a working operating system?

How did the bios go missing it is inbuilt into the dam motherboard.

did the motherboard fail or something, unless it is fried i don't see how the BIOS could disappear.

never heard of the BIOS disappearing either, did not know you could delete it.

think it is time for a new mother board

You can't do anything with the machine if the BIOS is hosed. Your motherboard is probably screwed up, through I can't imaging any scenario where this would be caused by Ubuntu.

When you power on the machine, do you get any specific series of beeps? If so, look up your mobo model and look up the beep code table to figure out what's failing.

No beeps, I just get the following error.

What happens when you press Shift-F10?

A couple of articles I have read suggest that this has to do with your SATA controller BIOS not the system BIOS.

Here is what I read:
