I am running two 19" CRT's via FX5200 video card, and on a Soyo K7VIA M/B.
Before I build a new computer, I'd like to know if I can run a 3rd 19" monitor.

The current dual-output card is AGP slot, older format.
I have a spare PCI video card, but I don't know if the M/B will support both cards simultaneously.

I've also seen video splitter cables, and I wonder if my current card will define the first port as the Left Monitor, with the second port defined as a single "wide resolution monitor", going to the 2nd and 3rd monitors via the splitter cable.

Ideas?

Just throw the PCI card in and see what happens.

the current card will do what you want ti to. i to run a dual monitor setup, and canpick and choose which one is the primary, and the secondary, and whether or not to span the display or treat each monitor as a single, but linked monitor. if you use a splitter you should be fine, and you should be fine with the pci card as well. dual vid cards for multiple monitors is commonplace

I tried it before, and it didn't work. So I bought the FX5200 to get the first two monitors going. I've been using this setup for 18 months, and am happy.

But now I have been spending a lot of time in ACAD, and have a 3rd monitor stored in the closet.

I'm afraid my 6-yr old M/B won't like the second video card again, so I will probably try the splitter cable. I recently switched from Dual to Span anyway, so two monitors on 2304x864 span, and the 3rd on 1152x864 might work.

Don't you think video performance will slow with the extra monitor?

I'll try to remember to return here and inform if it worked or not.
Thanks.

come to think of it, i did notice a 5-6[c] degree change in temp, but no noticeable slowdown of the actual card itself
