Hi

I have just installed service pack 2 (XP) and now my Canon Multipass MPC600F printer (fax/scanner etc) will not work. Everything seems to pint to the firewall settings getting in the way. The printer loads ok but then the service is stopped and needs to be manually restarted.

I have followed the info from the Canon website with regards to allowing the service but it hasn't had any effect.

Has anybody got any ideas?
All help appreciated.
Cheers, Mick

mine works fine and I have almost the same Canon. Try installing it on your PC rather than a network (you did say firewall).

Check that USB is working cos it can sometimes be de-activated from bios.

Thanks but no luck.

It is plugged directly into my PC (LPT1) and the firewall I am talking about is the Windows XP SP2 Firewall setting.

Next?

Disable windows firewall and see if it works. Also read this topic to see if it helps: http://www.ozzu.com/ftopic31031.html

Edit C:\WINDOWS\system32\MpNetIpc.ini
Change 127.0.0.2 to 127.0.0.1
(because XP SP2 does not allow loopback on other address)
(a common problem with all Cannon Multipass printers)

//EDIT: darn, I forgot the link :D

Thanks. I've have tried just turning off the firewall and it didn't help, which had me really confused because I am convinced it is the firewall settings that are getting in the way.
But I will try the edit on the ini file and see how I go.

Hmm, next suggestion.
I don't have 'mpnetipc.ini' file on my PC and the firewall is turned off. I have some firewall settings in my McAfee setup but they haven't changed inthe last month (unless a dat update has done something!). But I have also gone into the exceptions list and added mpservice to this.
All help [still] greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mick

Just a stab in the dak here but have you tried using the XP Device manager trouble shooter?

I have no idea how effective it is as I have never bothered to use it. But if as you say it has something to do with SP2, then it might be worth a try ?

Hi

I've had exactly the same problem with my mpc600f, and scoured the internet for a solution, which I have just found! The multipass F50 model is the American version of the mpc600f, which means you can download the patch from the Canon US site for the F50 and it will work on the mpc600f. I've just done this and have no problems using my printer anymore. Hope this helps.
