ive had a search for this and didnt find anything so sorry if its been covered.

i cant get my headphone mike to work on my xp pro pc, i have tried other working mikes and they dont work either.

im not sure if its related but i dont seem to have the speech recognition engine when you click on speech in the control panel. also i dont have office installed and dont intend to. and im sure this has worked in the past without installing office???

i cant get any input in the sound recorder either, and i have set the microphone to input and its not ticked on playback.

i have all the sound drivers installed and seems to be no errors. is it a windows issue or does my sound card need some other drivers?

thanx

Make sure its not on mute on the microphone and/or on windows... i had this problem a while ago. Turned out that it was on mute  just open the volume control and change the options so it shows the mic volume.

cheers but its not on mute ;-), ive checked all the basic stuff and its plugged in etc. im thinking its a windows system driver issue and not sound card related, the card works fine in terms of playback etc.

windows help didnt do much but it did point me in the direction of the "speech" (control panel) of which there is supposed to be a "speech recognition" tab. my main pc doesnt but my others do. not sure why not or if it is the cause of the problem????

If Microsoft's speech recognition engine is not installed then you won't see that tab:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -US;306537

Also, make sure the Microphone is selected on the recording control:
The volume tab on the Sounds and Audio devices panel, click Volume under Voice recording.

You may want to try running the MS troubleshooter in the audio properties. It will test the mic to see if there is any sound coming in.

it seems to work now havent fully tried with everything but now works in sound recorder and some other apps. all i did was go to the sound and audio devices > voice tab and click test hardware and this seemed to enable it. i still dont have the speech recognition tab in the speech app, so im not sure if its 100% but seems ok????
