Hi guys,

I've got this laptop with 2x256 ram. I'd like to give it 2x512 ram, but when I open the "ram-container", i only see one stick - unlike the workstations I've seen, that have two... Where is the second one, and how can I upgrade to 2x512 then?

Thanks,
Torst.

could it be that they only let you change one stick, so that you can't exceed 768mb..?

I'm guessing at a model. Is yours anything like this one:
http://www.amd64notebooks.com/reviews/4800/index.php

Those Amitech's appear to be based off Mitac's 8355. If so, it should have two slots as noted halfway down the first page where it talks about RAM

Quote:
Max. 1.0GB; DDR-266(PC2100), 333(PC2700)
The machine have 2X 200-pin DDR SO-DIMM RAM slots and support combinations with 128/256/512MB.

I'm assuming you have a Freenote, because it looks like that's all they make, but there are several models. Which one do you have?

(here is a link to the direct frame I was looking at)
http://www.amitech.dk/webprodukt/baerbarpc/index.asp

I can't read much of that, but perhaps someone here can, and it's easy enough to see what memory it comes with. It looks like the 4800 series is the first series that includes 512 DDR, but not being able to read the language, I can't tell if it is expandable from that info.

Perhaps you can contact their support to see if they can help, or if you can let us know which model, maybe we can find out more from there.

Thanks a lot for your research..!

We're talking about an Amitech Freenote 4770. The 4800 is 64 bit, mine is plain old 32... I can't seem to find any info on ram nor motherboard :(

I'll try and call them up - i just need to get home and get my serial number, cause they don't want to talk to me unless I give one to them!
