I have an old Compaq Armada M300 laptop and docking station, 4.2 gig hdd, celeron processor - not sure what clock speed. Given that we are 4.2 gig hdd, we are windows 98. Windows 2k would eat up lots of the hdd space.

We are getting a new printer for the other computer, and it only has USB 2.0, no parallel cable. We envision snaking the USB cable around to the front panel of our desktop computer, and when I want to print something from the laptop, unplug the USB cable from the computer, and plug into the laptop.

Does anyone know if the out - of - the - box drivers for the Compaq M300 support USB 2.0? Can I look in device manager to see what USB level is currently supported?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if I offended anyone with my post in Canada's same-gender marriage topic in the General discussion...

I would assume USB 1.0 considering the specs and age of the laptop.

Does anyone know how I can find out the USB level for sure, other than plug-n-pray??

Is there an updated software driver available that can upgrade this thing to USB 2?

Thanks.

I don't think so. USB 1.1 architecture can't be doing USB 2.0's job.

As for an extra card, you just can't
