The easiest way to solve this problem is to take the hard drive out of that computer, put it in one with a CDROM, install Windows completely, then delete everything out of Device Manager. (As much as you can, delete the mouse and keyboard last.) Put the hard drive back in the iPaq, let everything autodetect, and youre good to go.

I was thinking about doing that but the restore disks are only for caompaqs and my desktop was built by me. I don't think you can use compaq restore disks on other computers other than a compaqs

The borrow a CDROM from another computer and stick it in the Compaq

Why would Compaq send restore disks with a computer that doesn't have a CD drive? :?:

How about taking the CD-ROM drive out of your PC and putting it in the Compaq.

I wouldn'd know why, but the ipaq needs a special cd rom drive i found one on ebay and i will only have it wensday.I think the reason is that the compaq sent the computers with an operation system and if the owners wanted to add on a cd-rom drive they would have to pay more for it.Also don't forget there was a previous owner before me.

There is no reason why it would need a "special" cd-rom drive. I have several Compaq's here at work and all of them have an after market CD-ROM drive.

Did you even try to put another CD-ROM in it?

I would suggest downloading a lowlevel format utility and formatting the hard drive and try reloading the OS. Check the hard drive manufacturer website for hard drive utilities. Some have diagnostic programs that will fit on a floppy and you can boot to.

I just looked at your screenshots that you posted. The BIOS tells you that the hard drive has failed and you should replace it. So why didn't you just replace it instead of going through all this?

Usually when a diagnostic test tells you that the drive is defective and you should replace it, you should just replace it.

If you really want to test the hard drive just to be sure, download this or this and test to your hearts desire.
