I have a Windows XP computer that freezes up after it has been idle for a while (I am guessing about 20 minutes or so)and sometimes when I am in the middle of using it. If I try to use it after it has been idle it freezes and I have to hold the power button down until it shuts off. Sometimes, it will beep when it is frozen. It is a constant long beep. I have run Malwarebytes and that did not detect anything.

I am concerned about having to shut off and restart the computer like I do. I know it isn't really good for it.

I should also mention that lately, the hard drive sounds like it is running and running, but nothing is happening on the screen.

Disable sleep mode, hibernation & the screen saver. Download, update & run anti malware from malwarebytes.org
