A couple of years ago when i first bought my PC i updated the computer RAM to 4GB. I am aware that with the machine the way it is i am getting no more than 3GB's from that.

I've been quite keen on modifiying and updating my machine with newer features that will boost the power of it, i figure rather than purchasing a new machine i would just update the whole system internally. I have not ever actually done this before, with exception to the RAM.

What are a few basic bits of information that may be required for this to be a successful project? If i was to want to get full use of the current RAM, what would you suggest i look to to replace?

Are there any upgrade suggestions you would make? perhaps something you've done that you absolutely loved?

Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated!

When you installed the RAM, did you change the virtual memory setting to system managed? I found that to help alot. I wouldn't buy anything else to try to improve the speed of the machine.

Virtual Memory setting?

The fact i have to ask that would suggest the answer is no. What would i need to do to change this?

System properties, advanced, performance settings, advanced, virtual memory change. Choose system managed.

Done.

3GB was fine enough before, but as it shows 4GB now on the system i've noticed a very slight improvement thanks to your advice.

Thanks for that Don2007.
