It's usually the power supply. The mother board is the second choice.

Overheating is another culprit.

My thoughts exactly. I had the same problem once where I'd be using my computer and then *blink* it would shut off suddenly. I'd turn the computer back on and in a minute or two it would shut down again. Make sure your fans are all running good, clean out any dust and dirt inside the case, and maybe reapply the goop between the processor and its heat sink.
Like Mr Spork, I also write about my interest in alcoholic beverages.

The reason for this can be either software or hardware or may be both or you can say due to low ram...
Reasons Can be...
1. Processor over heating
2. SMPS is faulty and failing to provide power.
3. SMPS fan not working properly.
4. Any virus issue.
5. RAM is faulty
6. Software compatibility issue.
If you have extra RAM use in different slots of motherboard
Best of luck.......

It sounds like it's over heating. Check the CPU and power supply fans to make sure they are running at full speed.
