computer speaker making strange sounds

I don't know if this is the same, but my computer keeps making like...a "punching sound." I closed out of all my programs and did spyware cleaning and virus scans, but it still makes the same sound. It makes two sounds every 6 seconds. And rarely it makes a very quick two sounds and only one sound. It's scaring me.
