I have 2 computers in my home in different rooms. The problem is i want to share files and hardware between them. I hate it when i need something and i have to copy it on a removable storage and then copy it on the other computer or when i have to take a printout and the printer is connected with the other printer. I just want to create a network so that i can Print, Scan and do whatever i want without changing Pcs and also so that i can share data.

I really dont know alot about networking, so which wires will i be needing ? RJ45 ? and how exactly do i create the network?

Also, its not very important but if anyone can tell me how to create a wireless network too .. that would be great. Also please mention what hardware and software is required for both wireless network and Lan.

Thanks in advance

I'm lazy too so instead of typing what is in that link I just posted the link. It would have taken too much time out of my day to answer your question myself.

I definitely recommending reading it though, especially this section

So lets see if i get this right. You need a wireless router first and a Wireless USB network adapter? You need to have the USB Network adapter to be connected to all those computers on which you want to create a wireless network? So in my case i would need 2 Wireless USB Network Adapters along with a Wireless Router ?

Thats all i understood so far. Hmm this wireless network thing looks a bit complicated. I was hoping it would be a little easy because i wanted to make use of my Playstation Portable and use it to surf the internet and stuff.

Well it all depends. I have a wireless network myself. I have 2 PC's wired to the wireless router with CAT5. Then I have a laptop and a desktop that connect wirelessly. The laptop uses a wireless network card not usb. The desktop is using a usb adapter.

Wireless is a lot simpler than it sounds. But yes you do need a Wireless router and then a wireless adapter for each computer/device you want to connect to the router.

Nice one, someone asks how to setup a network using XP (this is implied based on other threads the user is involved in) and you point them to a Linux network guide. That is helpful, thanks.

:D Heh. So how much would a wireless router and 2 Wireless usb adapters cost me ?

And the hardware required for a LAN between 2 computers would just be a LAN card with a cable connecting the 2 computers right? Or you need something like a Hub or Router or anything ?

A wired network will require a router as well.

Wireless Routers
Wireless Adapters

Router and a hub is the same thing right ? So in a wired network i need to connect a cable to my lan card and the other end of the cable to the router and connect another cable from my other computer's lan card and its other end to the router too right?

A router and a hub are not the same thing.

Yes, both PC's would need to be connected to the router via CAT5.
