I guess I was wrong but I was always under the impression that if you formatted your hard drive and reinstalled windows that the data that was on your hard drive previously was totally lost. I have recently formatted my HD and was told nothing could be recovered cuz everything was deleted. What is the point of formatting if nothing really gets deleted?

If you truly want to delete all your files, the best option is to do a low level format.

What this does is write zeros to the drive and makes it virtually impossible to retrieve data from it.

This application
http://www.killdisk.com/
states that it meets standards set forth by the DoD.

I think EASEUS DataRecoveryWizard is worth to try. You can choose "Formatted Recovery" function to search your data from the formatted HDD. It offer trial version to try.

If you want to recover your data from formated hard drive then you can try
Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS - data recovery software. I used this software to recover my lost data. It worked remarkably well. Download the demo version from http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm.
It is going to work for you.
Best of Luck.
