Hi,

The Mother Borad of my computer has "built-in Display Card" so there is no Display Card before. Now I am learning a 3D software so I need to buy a 3D Display Card.

I bought an old AGP 3D Display Card (AOpen FX5900XT) from a computer repair shop. I am very poor so I have to buy old stuff all the time. The display card worked very well when tested in the shop. However it does not work in my computer.

Here's the specification of my computer:
=================================
Mother Board: Intel D865GBF
CPU: Intel P4 2.8
Memory: 4 GB
=================================

The specification of Display can be found at:

==================================================

The monitor screen did not show anything (Totally black) when the computer was turned on. However when I removed the Display Card, the computer works normally again.

I only plugged the Display Card to the AGP slot and do nothing else.

Please advise what may be the problem and how to solve it.

Thanks and best regards

You may need to enable or disable something in the BIOS. There is also a chance that the card is not compatible with your system. I can understand if you don't have the money to buy new but buying old stuff like that isn't worth it. You would be better off discarded machines and stripping them for parts.

Your motherboard supports both AGP 4X and AGP 8X. The video card you bought is 8X. You may have to go into the BIOS and ensure it is set for 8X. I'm not sure if it automatically does it on its own. That is where you need to start.

Hi all,

Thanks for your assistance. Actually I went to the BIOS before and set the [APG] as the Primary Video Adapter when the computer boot up.

I noticed that the Primary Video Adapter is the only thing that can be done in the BIOS. The BIOS version is BF86510A.86A.0075.P24 which should be the latest update.

Thanks and best regards
