In order to burn a dual-layered DVD onto a single layer DVD-R you will have to compress it using a program like DVDShrink. Another option is to remove excess crap like the special features, alternate languages, directors comments, other sound formats.

Dual layer dvds can't be read or written by (single layer) DVD+R/RW. There should be a feature like DVD+R/RW DL .

Most movie DVD's are dual layer and my single layer 3 year old DVD burner can read them just fine. I just can't burn dual-layer, I have to compress it using DVDShrink before I can burn it.
