Hi,

My CD burner went to heaven on Friday. :-(

I am considering either an external DVD±RW drive or drive enclosure. Both of which must support Firewire and USB in my mixed environment (Solaris, Mac OS, and Linux). An external drive enclosure is a little more attractive because it offers some flexibility such as additional drive bays for things like hard and tape drives.

If you have some personal experience coping with Linux 2.4/2.6, Mac OS X.2, and Solaris 9 with these external devices, please share them.

Thanks!

P.S. I'm leaning towards the DAT Optic Speedzter 5 external enclosure. Mostly because I haven't found much in the way of competing products. Something similar in a dual-bay configuration would be sweet.

Newegg has a bunch of external enclosures for sale, a lot of different brands too.

Just in case you're curious... I found some other interesting products at firewiremax.com and cooldrives.com.
