my external hard drive not appearing on my computer!
its a my essential western digital 500gb
i have a windows xp
and its a packard bell, dual core

i makes the noise like "duh-duh!"
and if i go to device manager or even my computer bios at the bgenning of the computer - its on those lists!
but i cant go on in my computer?
and its also not on "disk management" on my computer?
HELP! plaesee..... :(

Did you format the printer at all? Go into the BIOS and format it. Then it should show up.

why printer?

and this is a hard drive....

but cud i format hard drives on bios?
becauase from my bios - i cant even see this harddrive, the xternal one that is

Haha. Ya I meant hard drive. I have been fixing my printer all day so i have printer on the mind. Try right clicking and going to properties. I forget where to format it. But I am 90% sure that is the problem.

i have tried - but i cant find hte option to format - and ive tried from device manager- but it doesnt come up with that option

my cd drive used to do that i fixed it by

unplugging it,
boot windows,
shut down,
plug back in. :P

see really that shouldn't make and difference but it does so try it

did the same problem

also - when i updated my bios
didnt work

i even looked at disk management - not there?

yet its detected by my device mangaer?

ive also otehr sockets
not workin

also - ive plugged into my brothers computer- and same, device manager... but not there!

exactly the same problem as mine without any exceptions . except mines an old external hard drive it works for ages then i reformated and now its not working . the sounds wens i plug it in and everythign just not able to get wat i want out of it

Well I think the way to have determined whether it was the actual external hard drive or not would have been to plug it into another computer to see if it was recognized. If it wasn't then obviously it would be an issue with the external hd, if it was then it's an issue with your particular machine.

In which case I would have checked different usb ports, disk mgmt, bios settings...
