hi

if i had a 2nd hand hard drive, installed windows xp, office and put all my files on it, then used norton ghost to backup the drive and put all the data on a fresh drive, would there be any chance that someone could recover old deleted files from the new drive that were deleted on the old drive?

any ideas?

If something is deleted before creating ghost image also if the deleted file is not in any system restore point then there is perhaps no chance to recover from the image on the new drive.

Files can be recovered even if deleted but it requires special software.

When something is deleted from the HDD the file is not actually deleted as such, the sectors taken up by the files are marked as empty and avaliable for data to be written to them. Data is not actually lost until new data is written to the sectors in question.

But I don't know any such software that can resotre data by scanning that particular sector of the disk. It is quite impossible to get tha data by knowing only date of deletion if he don't know which file was deleted.

well, i was thinking if it is possible that windows would carry information in a ghost image where a file used to exist. or is this not so?

is this for security or did you loose something important

like for instance you deleted an phone-book and are wandering if (A)someone can use one of the programs afformentioned after digging the drive out of your trash(hypotheticaly) or (B)you need to recover the phone-book

just curious
