I have a 1500 GB hard drive, which when in my computer will cause my computer not to start up, presumably my computer has detected the drive and is awaiting response from the drive. When in an external casing, simply makes a clicking noise and does not appear on screen. This problem occurred after it stopped working mid use within an external casing.
I'm hoping if I take it to a Seagate centre they can fix it while maintaining the integrity of the current data (If it's still there).

What could be the cause and problem? and what are my chances of recovery?

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/

Try the Seagate diagnostic tools at that site. That's exactly what they will do wherever you bring it.

Hmm, I was hoping they'd at least crack it open...

I have no way of using any diagnostic tools because the drive never responds at start up.

What do you mean you have no way? You create a boot disc with the tools. Let the tools decide if there is no way.

This might sound stupid, but I don't have a disc drive installed. Never the less I have to open my computer to put my drive back in anyway.
