My maxtor hard drive Makes a high pitch whining noise all the frigging time you can hear it in the next room if the doors are kept open.

Is there fix or do I have to get a new drive? All my other maxtors run fine!

Usually when that happends your HardDrive is not getting the required power or voltage for it to work right take it to a computer shop and ask for a bigger power supply.

Make sure you do regular backups and that the drive is being kept cool. Maxtors drives tend to die fast when they're overheating.

Most harddrives do that from time to time. Mine does that every 1-2 hours but it isnt loud at all i just spins louder then normal for about 3 seconds.
all the computers i have ever owned have done this. If its happening alot then i guess there could be a problem.... those Maxtor drives are fast tho ... if you got the 10,000 rpm one so i wouldnt be suprised if its overheated and dieing.

naaa it was a constant whine from all the time the power is on. It sounds like a tin fan in a can. I have binned it as it was a slave and the C drive make no noice what so ever. Finally I have silent PC and even thinking of removing the case fan, maybe.
