Hard Drive transfer rate getting slower?

I've got 2 Western Digital SATA 200GB hard drives on my computer. When I used to rip DVD's (using DVD decrypter), no matter which harddrive I saved my ISO to, the speed (read rate) would be the same.

Nowadays, the 2nd hard drive (on Sata channel 2) is transferring slower. Read rates are only half or sometimes a third of what the 1st hard drive can do. So choosing my 2nd hard drive as the save destination of my ISO means a slow read rate even with the same DVD disc tested on both drives. C drive saves 2 to 3 times than my E drive.

Any one got any ideas? I've just updated my bios and flashed my dvd burner (pioneer 111d) with the latest firmware. Still slow 2nd hard drive.

Cheers,
Brandon.

Try defragging the drive. If your drive is heavily fragmented it could slow things up.

cheers, thanks for the reply.

although i just found out the problem.

had to goto device manager and under sata controller > properties, the secondary channel was somehow set to PIO mode when it should've been in UDMA mode. Set it back to UDMA and it's all good now. Both drives running at same speed.
