Hi,

I have purchased a new HP DV1000 series notebook (DV1006ea) and evrything is great on it except the backslash does not work on it.
I contacted hp and have run thru all the diagnostics including updating bios, reinstalling keyboard drivers but nothing has worked. The key does not work in dos prompt or any win app.
HP have therefore decided it is a mechanical fault and want me to send it in for repairs.
I am not too keen on sending it in for repairs as it will cost me and i don't know when i'll get it back.
Plus i have a sneaky feeling that the fault might be a software one as the on-screen keyboard that windows XP has does not show the button in question or any backslash key on it's displayed keyboard.

Has anyone else come acros this problem or does anyone know how to resolve this prob?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

The only option you really have is to send it back. If it is still under warranty you shouldn't have to pay anything but shipping costs.

You could try and plug in a USB keyboard and see iif that remedies your problem, if it does than it is HP's problem and you should have them fix it.

Or maybe he's afraid that they will find pirated software... Don't worry - they don't check software licenses.
