Sorry if Im posting this in the wrong place but I wasnt sure where to put it :?

I'm having some servere problems with my graphics card. It is a Radeon 9800 XL, I have a 3.0Ghz processor, 512 DDR RAM, 160GB hard drive and I think my power pack is like 350W  Basically what happens is when I have had my PC turned on and its been in use for like an hour or 2 it starts making this electrical type noise (and it always has a deep humming noise which I think is coming from the graphics card...it didnt always have the noise) and then suddenly my screen goes black and 'no signal detected' appears and thats it...my PC is still on but the monitor is recieving nothing from the card. Can it may be a loose connection or the fan on the gfx card? Or that my power pack isnt sufficiant? I have had a new power pack recently because the old one blew (the new one is exactly the same) and I have also had a new motherboard because that was seriously damaged (by me messing with it :) ) So the only other explanation can be the graphics card....but I want to know what is EXACTLY wrong with it, the technicians I send it to must know nothing at all as they have never picked up on this problem even though they told me they ran a 24 hour test on my computer...bull. I would greatlyyyy appriciate any comments/advice as soon as possible please, thanks:D

Start your PC up in "SAFE MODE" (press F8 during the POST sequence). "SAFE MODE" loads only the most necessary drivers for the mobo and HDD, the drivers for your GPU will not be loaded, it will use onboard.

Right click "MY COMPUTER" and choose "MANAGE". From the menu select "DEVICE MANAGER". There you will find a selection called "SOUND, VIDEO & GAME CONTROLLERS", look in there to see if your GPU is either conflicting (marked with a yellow exlimtaion triangle) or broken (red X).

If neither, try disabling the device (right click > disable) then reboot your pc and see if it works for a longer period without your card.

This will let you know if it is your GPU or something else that is causing the problem.

Let us know the result.

Hey I did what you said, couldnt see any yellow or red markers so I disabled my graphics card...then looked into my monitor properties...I then went on adapter> properties> resources and found something I think. The resource types all had red circles with a line through over them and there was stuff in the conflicting device list:

Input/Output Range 03B0 - 03BB used by:
Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571
Input/Output Range 03C0 - 03DF used by:
Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571
Memory Range 000A0000 - 000BFFFF used by:
Intel(R) 82865G/PE/P/GV/82848P Processor to AGP Controller - 2571

Isnt that my processor? What is happening exactly...?

How old in the "new" power supply? If you bought a cheep one you may have to replace it again. You said it's a 350watt, that is exactly the same. Other problems could be the card it unseated, the video cable in the back is not screwed in fully, and the bearings in the video card fan (if there is one) are going. My initial guess it that your PS is not producing enough cooling and after a while things are overheating. Can you give any other information?

Well my computer has warrenty and is fixed by the technicians (whom I just dont trust at all anymore....its been 3 months since my computer was in good health) they bought the new power supply and Im almost 100% positive it was the same model as my previous one. So I think that should be ok... I agree with the idea of this being a overheating problem but I dont see how it can be my PS.....its brand new, I think your theories about my graphics card may be correct but we'll see soon. I'm seriously considering asking for my money back and building my own from scratch, even though I dont have much knowledge of putting a PC together...I'd need help lol. Thanks for your advice by the way! Keep it coming if you have any other ideas :)

What ever that yellow "X" was next to is conflicting with your AGP (graphics card). Each device is given a different IRQ and address so that that the CPU know which device take priority.

Also, I told you the wrong place to look in, you should have been looking in "DISPLAY ADAPTOR" in "DEVICE MANAGER" not sound, games etc. Your graphics card information is stored in there.

Sorry about that.

There wasnt any yellow marker :? Its just that the resources were kinda crossed out.....like I said.....with a red circle and line through them. So are you saying my graphics card and processor are conflicting? If so how could I actually fix this? Thanks.

There were no markers in device manager at all. When I went into Display Properties> Settings> Advanced> Adapter (my graphics card was disabled at this time like you told me to do so it didnt appear here)> Properties> Resources.... Then all the 'Resource Type' were not appearing normally...they were crossed out, and in the Conflicting Device List was the things I stated before.

Try uninstalling the grahpics card using the "ADD/REMOVE HARDWARE" in "CONTROL PANEL" then reboot and reinstall.
