Okay, so I just put together a system.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard

CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Antec Performance I P180 Silver cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

GIGABYTE GV-NX795T512H-RH GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

When I start my system up, my cpu temp is around 30C. If I go into ANY 3d game it will jump to 50C when I quit it slow goes back to 30 ish. Now I know this has to be wrong or something. My cpu should never go that high. I have a feeling my heatsink isnt working because the temp of the air coming out of my case is just a tad above room temp. I think thats a bad sign. It took me about 6 tries to get my heatsink on so I think I might of destroyed my thurmal grease. Any other ideas?

Im going to try running the the game again to see what the temp is around. I forgot to turn on Cool&Quiet.

P.S) my volts for my CPU is, 1.3920.

EDIT, okay when having Cool&Quiet on the CPU was around 40C so I guess thats not to bad. But should I still get some new thurmal grease or do you think whats on there is fine?

Many CPUs work at around 45C without any problem. My intel cpu works safe upto 60C. I think its not a problem.

Yup sounds fine to me, my Opteron 165 @ 2.6GHz does about 45/50 degrees under load. AMD chips do run a bit hotter than most due to the fact they do more work per clock cycle.

Nothing really to worry about, unless you get a funny smell ....

Need proper cooling in your box,

intake and exhaust fan,

But note that does processors can go to 75c and still work properly, alto you won't be able to OC for nothing,
