Finally getting rid of these infernal HP NC6220 laptops for an IBM T60!

Now the HDD selection they make available in the T60 is not very well thought out by some not very bright people. I may even go on to classify both the hard drives and the people that chose them as "slow."

Now - Seagate has some new hotness brewing. 7200rpm 2.5" perpendicular recording low-voltage sucking solid-state/magnetic platter hybrid hard drives. Yum. I get chills just thinking about them.

Also known as the Seagate MoMentus 7200.2

Now I know on the old T42/43's that the IBM bios would complain that an IBM drive wasn't used. I also know they made a BIOS update that made it able for you to turn it off on those machines because too many people complained because replacement and upgrade hard-drives were sold by IBM at a 20000% premium.

However, today's world of "we are rebadged-as-proprietary-but-really-just-standard-with-stupid-marketing-buzzwords-for-stupid-people trolls" methinks they may have put it back in and with a vengeance.

My laptops are comming through 9 layers of useless middlemen err I mean middlepeople (sensitivity training) but at a pretty disgustingly discounted price (like 45% off sticker), so its going to be a while for them to show up because everyone needs to get their fingerprints on it so they can justify their useless troll existance.

Anyone know for a fact? Google isn't being kind today...

I still can't find anything on this, and I'm still away from my office so I don't even know if this laptop came in.

So, IBM/Lenovo's tech support is horrible!

I get the call back from the Electronic Service Call+ and the guy is an "entitlement specialist."

He wanted the serial number of the machine and I don't have the machine yet. He's like I need the serial number and I'm like, "Sure, let me go look at the laptop to see, oh wait I DON'T HAVE IT!" So this guy wants to bill me just to find out if I will get that BIOS error.

So I hang up on the moron and call my companies service manager and leave him a voice mail. Hopefully he will call me back and I can figure this out, because it seems nobody on the internet knows anything.

So what happened? Did the manager reply?
The 100Gb 7200rpm from Lenovo is $180 but you can get a Seagate for $150-160 and also sell the 5400rpm drive.

I got the IBM Thinkpad T60 7200rpm 100GB HDD for $118 with my company discount.

Loaded PC-BSD on 50Gb and will load Vista Ultimate on another 50Gb partition.

Waiting for Vista to finish from the MSDN site now. I got my FiOS and its breezing by at 400Kbps steady.
