IBM Thinkpad T23 keyboard problem

I have an old T23 that I have had for years. Recently, the audio volume keys at the top of the keyboard have choses to work intermintently. I have tried rebooting and restoring and neither seems to work. Then one day it will be working again. Any ideas?
