Hello

I have a thinkpad T40 that has a problem booting up.

Im kind of sad if its broken because its the only laptop I have got. I like the sieze and the performace of it. It suits my needs.

The problem started happenning a month ago. It wouldnt boot up. The battery light and power light comes on but thats it. the screen is blank.

I had a friend look at it and he he said its a mobo problem.

Its been sitting down on my shelf for a month now. I decided to turn it on today and to my surprise it turned on.

Now it turns on and boots up to windows no problem. AS LONG AS THE POWER LEASD IS NOT CONNECTED. I can turn it on boot it up. As soon as it starts booting I can plug the power lead in without a problem. It keeps running.

When I turn it off and plug the power in however and then try to boot it up with power lead connected I get the same thing, power light with battery light and nothign on screen. No hrd drive light or anything else.

I dont want to have to get rid of this so can someone please help me.

Many thanks

Try a different power supply.

I have tried a different power supply already. Same thing.

Thanks for the tip.

If you tried a different power supply, then it's sounds like a hardware problem inside the machine.
