my iPod is doing something really odd. last night my computer wouldn't even read that it was plugged in, and this morning it's reading it, but all of my songs are grey and i can't listen to them (on iTunes); but i can still listen to them on the iPod. i'm thinking i need to restore the iPod to factory settings, but i'm not 100 percent sure. so any help would be appreciated if anyone else has had this problem.

Well I've never heard of this problem, but I'm pretty sure there's a button combination that solves most ipod related issues. You just have to look it up for your specific model.

Hold down Menu and the center button simultaneously for about 5 seconds until the device reboots.

Sounds like you just need to install the drivers.
