I bought my Compaq R3000Z lappy on Sep 2004, there was no battery issue untill today,

1. I can't turn on the laptop w/ battery in the laptop, but w/o AC adapter, the power light or other light won't turn on.
2. I can turn on the laptop w/ battery in the laptop and w/ AC adapter, but when remove the AC adapter, the laptop turns off
3. When the laptop is on Ac adapter, Windows show 100% power in battery, and mobilemeter also show 100% power in battery and the wear level is only 8%.

Here is the battery info from MobileMeter:
Items Value
Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
Device Name Primary
Remaining Watta... 59644 mWn
Designed Capacity 65120mWn
Fully Charged Capacity 59644 mWn
Wear Level 8%
Voltage 16389mV

I didn't do any battery calibration recently, and I always use AC adapter and keep the battery in the laptop.

Is this a battery problem or other problem like motherboard?
How to ix the problem?

Most likely the battery, you can only tell by testing with another battery.
If it is under guarantee, just get a nbew one.

As with all these things fault dinding is the only way.
Try another battery, try your battery on another machine etc.

i have had to buy a new laptop battery and a new laptop ac adapter since purhasing my laptop two years ago. i found a website called http://www.laptopsforless.com/laptopacadapter and used if for both purchases. i like the site and found everything fast, affordable and reliable so if you find yourself wanting a new battery i would check them out.
