Laptop harddrive question

I have a laptop with a bad ATA-5 drive in it, can i use an ATA-6 drive as a replacement? laptop is a Dell Inspiron 2600 .

There should be no reason the hard drive would not work. So long as the connection is the same you should be fine. I believe ATA-7 started SATA so you should be safe.
