Just got a new Dell laptop. I bought a docking station when I have it in my room. Got the monitor working, but how the *peach* do I keep the laptop closed and working at the same time? It just turns off when I shut it - I want to close the thing and use my external monitor.

Also, sound only comes through the laptop when I play anything. I did a test on the external speakers and they work fine, but even making them the default doesn't keep all sound from being played through the laptop speakers.

Here is something to try.

Power down the laptop. Hook it up to the docking station and then turn it on. See if the laptop automatically detects the docking station.

This might help: Go to Control Panel > Power Options. Click on the Advanced tab and in the drop-down box that says When I close the lid of my computer:, choose Do nothing

Tat works now, but I still can't get sound to play through my normal speakers instead of the laptop speakers...
