Laptop + Ac Power

Hello,

I would like to know if its is safe/ok to run my sony laptop off AC power but without the battery in.

A family friend said its not good for them?

He said that they arent ment to be opperated while running on just AC power. I thought it was a weird thing to say, if they werent ment to be run like that they would be made so they couldnt.

I got told by another person that its bad for the battery to be left in while running off AC and that you should only use the battery when charging or running off the battery.

its not going to do any harm by running off AC power without the battery in is it?

I don't see a problem. Suppose the battery were totally dead. Wouldn't that be the same thing, as if it weren't there at all?

I have never had a problem on any notebooks, the person probably tried to use too much common knowledge about the situation and got the idea that is my be harmful if there was a power spike or surge there would be no cushion for the notebook not thinking there is one in the power pack.
