I have an Acer Aspire 3020 laptop. A few weeks ago I changed the cd/dvd drive. After putting it all back together I found that the laptop touchpad wouldn't work. The ribbon cable looked a little rough at the motherboard end so I replaced the cable but it still doesn't appear. There is no reference to it in the device manager. What could the problem be with it ?

Thanks

What's with all the Acer laptops lately? Don't people know not to buy Acer or Gateway? Sheesh...

Anyway - I doubt it's a driver issue. So that leaves bad news and worse news. Bad news is, you put it back incorrectly and even the new cable is either on backwards or broken as well. Worse news, the touchpad is dead and therefore you need to replace that.

Glad it's not my laptop then !
cable is in correctly unless my tracking is out !
Maybe the touchpad is dead or new cable is broken.
I think my mate will have to make do with his external usb mouse.

Thanks anyway

Have an Acer5630 and recently experienced the same problem. Just noticed you mentioned that your mate will have to do with his external usb mouse... My problems began when I connected a wireless usb mouse to the laptop. As soon as it was installed the touchpad stopped working?

Worst laptop ever!
