One of the guys I work with brought his PC to me with a SCSI Controller problem. This controller is recognized by XP but the drive is not. When the hard drive is connected to the controller, XP takes about 20 minutes to boot and all kinds of errors in the System Log of event viewer. The driver is up to date. I am at a loss on what the problem is.

The controller is anAdaptec 39160
The hard drive is a Fujitsu

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

I would take a look at your boot.ini file and make sure the path to your operating system is correct. It sounds like it's getting hung up in the boot process. The boot.ini file resides in your root directory and is a system file.

Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

Click the Advanced tab, and then under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.

Typically, the Boot.ini file contains the following data:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=scsi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\winnt

I set timeout=3

check the id of the scsi drive and make sure it's not set to the same as another device on the card or the card itself.
