I had a 512 stick of DDR 2700 ram in my c and i just got another 512 today. I put it in and of course it doesnt work... still says i have 512 ram.. i used my old memory alone (and i have been for a year or so) and then i tried the new memory alone and it worked too. but when i combine them it only gives me 512MB it wont recognize both. any ideas?

thanks

btw i have a MSI KTv4 board and both my memory modules are 512MB DDR pc2700

I checked up on your msi motherboard memory settings and it points out that the mainboard only supports one DDR400 DIMM, I'm guessing thats your problem right there. See if you can return it for a DDR 333 or 266.

DDR600 = PC4800
DDR550 = PC4400
DDR533 = PC4200
DDR500 = PC4000
DDR450 = PC3700 }Not sure about
DDR533 = PC3500 }Not sure about
DDR400 = PC3200
DDR333 = PC2700
DDR300 = PC2100

PC2700 is DDR333 not DDR400, are you sure you have the ram stick in the correct slot? Have you tried it in another motherboard? Could it be faulty?

each module works by itself in each of the three slots, therefore i dont think the slots are bad, and i know for a fact that the memory sticks are good

i had this problem once, i got a memory stick from the manufacturer that was already static damaged.

you also might want to try the hardware manager. sometimes windows doesnt recognize new hardware.
