On my desktop computer I was able to put my microphone input out through the speakers, rather like a public address system. On my laptop, however, I can't figure out how to. I'm running Windows XP and have already tried looking under volume control, there isn't any mute button under the microphone section, only "Select."

Any ideas?

Check the device manager. Look for any yellow or red marks. Make sure that all drivers are loaded.
Do you have other sounds?

There's nothing wrong with any of my hardware, I just want to be able to play singalong/announcer man or something on my computer.

If I open my control panel and go to sounds and devices, then the audio tab and volume, I see the mute box checked under Line In.

Is yours checked? Uncheck it if it is.

I've tried that, it's not muted.

You might want to look into another sound card or some 3rd party software.

here you should uncheck "mic" instead of "line in". that should work.
if u cannot find the "mic" option, check Options>Properties>Playback>Show following volume control> check"Microphone".
