Have you tried updating your graphics card driver?

Every computer has a graphics card of some type, whether it's onboard or a slot card. Under windows 98, right click on my computer, go to properties, then click on the device manager tab. You're looking for display adapters. If nothing's listed, then you need to look on the physical card and find out what brand it is.

Right Click "My Computer" > Manage > Device Manager > Display Adaptors

Follow that path to find out what your graphics card is, or whether it is onboard.

Is this a new machine or have you upgraded components ?

What do you mean by really old? 5 years? 10 years? Technically speaking 3 years is really old for a computer. If it's "really old" it could be that you're running the best graphics possible. Then again... maybe not.

I hope that's confusing, because that's how this whole issue looks right now, we need more details to help you. If you can look inside your computer case, find the card that your monitor plugs into. Usually this will be the top slot in your case if you have a separate graphics card. If you have on board, the plug on the outside will match up with the motherboard, which is the largest board inside your case. I don't mean to talk down, but I don't know what your hardware skill is so I'm trying to be as clear as possible.

From what you have said, you are running a PCI card.

What you need to do is find out the manufacturer and model type of the card [ normally a sticker on the card itself ]. Bit surprised the Device Manager didn't supply you with a name.

Once we know that we can get you your driver.

Rage is an old ATI video card. It sounds bad ass but in todays terms it isn't.

That is the link to Win98 Rage Drivers.
