i need help,my computer floppy disk drive is not working

hi friends,
my computer floppy disk drive is not working.
whenever i click the FDD a pop up window opens with "A:\ is not accessible
the drive is not ready" message.
the floppy disk light is on at that time.
i dont understand what is the problem.
my pc is ctx EZ book 700g laptop
win 98.
any kind of suggestions will be appreciated.

did you do anything to mess up wires or take it apart in anyway?

Insert new formated floppy into your FDD and check.

i did nothing with the wires.
my computer FDD is removable.u know which comes in old laptops.
and i checked the FD in other computer it works great.
any further suggestions?

Check the BIOS and make sure your "modular bay" or "removable media" or whatever your BIOS calls it is set to "1.44 MB" mode setting not disabled or 740K, 1.2 MB, or some other setting that shouldn't even exist today; but does.
