Searching all over for the problem and finally it seemed to be the speed factor !
Strange. I always write my DVDs at the lowest - 6X. I have a HP DVD Writer and Im using original HP DVDs.
All this time it was writing fine at 6X. Now I keep getting Power Calibration Error if I try at 6X and now have to write at 8X and above only !

There is nothing to fix, this message means one of two things:
1. Your burner is on the fritz (going bad)
2. The burner does not like the brand of disc you are using.
Try another manufacturer.
I had this problem and researched it thoroughly, fortunately I found my burner did not like Office Max X8 DVD+R discs. Works great on everything else.
Technically it is not finding space at the "home position" to start a burning session

My suggestion is just to use a different software than Nero, especially Nero 7. I have been having a lot of problem with it burning mp3 to Wav file (to regular CD). It makes my sound skip like crazy. Get something else....

I was burning an audio disc with nero express...
does about 5% of the burn and says "Power Calibration Error" and just stops...

I have no idea why, anyone know why, or of a solution?

ANSWER: THERE IS AN INTERRUPTION IN COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE BURNERS, SIMPLY SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER AND RESTART, THIS WILL ELIMINATE THE ERROR MESSAGE. ALSO, YOU HAVE TO CLEAN OUT PRIOR BURNED FILES SO DUMP YOUR TEMPORARY FILES WHICH ALSO CAN CAUSE THIS. BUT THE EZ SOLUTION IS SHUT DOWN, RESTART
YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO.

ANSWER: JUST SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER AND RESTART. THERE IS TOO MANY TEMPORARY FILES AND A COMMUNICATION ERROR BETWEEN BURNERS. SHUT DOWN AND RESTART

STAND ALONE DVD RECORDINGS : WHEN USING BLANK MEDIA, STAND ALONE DVD RECORDERS REALLY LIKE SLOWER SPEED BLANK DISCS, AND THEY ALSO LIKE NAME BRAND (VERBATIM) DISCS, SUCH AS 8X OR LOWER.

FOR DVD COMPUTER BURNER TO EXTERNAL BURNERS, SAME AS ABOVE APPLIES HOWEVER, THE NEWER MODELS CAN ACCEPT 16X DISCS, BUT THIS IS A HIGHER CHANCE OF DISC ERRORS DUE TO ROTATION SPEED (spin) AND COMMUNICATION BETWEEN COMPUTER AND DVD BURNER. VERBATIM DISCS ARE THE MOST RELIABLE AND ARE NOW MORE AFFORDABLE, B5H PHOTO VIDEO .COM IS ONE PLACE WHO SELLS 8X DISCS.
