I've just got this week and am trying to set it up on a mac G4. The mac recognises the ethernet connection. I've set the ethernet on the mac settings to to DHCP. the setting have been manully put in as follows. ip address 192.168.0.2 the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and the DNS field to 192.168.0.1

but whne I try and log into the modem by http;//192.168.0.1 in my browser it should ask for a username and password, but it doesn't get that far. It keeps timing out, Is there something els i should be doing, help.

You can't have both DHCP and manual specify.

Set it to DHCP and then see if it gets an IP address. If it does then try.

Then it's an automatic private address. The router isn't giving IP's to the computer. Try rebooting the router and then waiting a minute and hit "renew"
