PCI-Express isn't available on AMD motherboards yet. PCI-Express is the future of graphics cards, but by the time you need it you will need a new motherboard anyway. Most high-end cards are still using the AGP interface.

You don't need the sound card. It just depends on if you want the best sound. The onboard sound should be adequate, but if you love gaming, you'll love the sound card.

PCI-Express will be available for AMD boards...eventually. I just don't think it's worth the wait. PCI-Expresss is better than AGP, just not yet. AGP still has way more cards and is the choice for entusiasts.

PCI-E for AMD is out.. or will be shortly.. both VIA and Nvidia have motherboards on their way out..

If your going to spend $2000 buck on a new PC you might as well get the PCI-E, it doesn't make much (if any) performance difference.. (when comparing High End AGP vs High End PCI-E) but the future is PCI-E and the next generation cards are coming out PCI-E First.. and maybe AGP.. so if you want some futureproofing.. I also think AMD is the way to go.. and TomK put together a very nice system.
