Okay, I bought it.

$1,622.79 shipped

Amd Athlon 3700+ San Diego
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
Asus EN6600GT/TOP GeForce6600GT overclocked PCI-E X16 SLI
Corsair 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200XLPRO XMS Pro DDR PC3200
Hitachi Deskstar Sata2 250GB
Plextor PX-716SA SATA Dual Layer DVR+-RW
Lian-Li PC-65B
PC P&C 510W SLI

I think I did well, and its a great starting bed. I know 2x512 isnt crazy but, I heard some problems with 4x1GB chips on the AMD platform and the Corsair has some extreme low latencies and can overlcock to 500MHZ stable. I think that ability alone will enable bettere performance. And I can also add that second gig later on.

I finally went for the San Diego, I knew I would kick myself if I didn't and proc prices were not falling (watch them fall drastically tomorrow!!!!! ).The PC-65B is the perfect case to add a VapoChill later-on also. Right now its going to stay air-cooled.

I went with the 6600GT becase it was < half than the next better GPU. I can also add a 7000 series ;ater on though. This is a upgradable starting point only.

Thanks. Yeah I was looking at my bank account and then looking at the newegg cart. Then I bought some stuff from xoxide and zipzoom to save on tax and shipping charges (newegg was more expensive) and saved like $60 total. Then I just went for it, and my heart still hasn't slowed its beating down yet!

I feel the same way I felt when I bought my first car. I still got a little buzz from it.

She better not say a word, that rock on her finger cost 10x what I spent on this rig. Besides her parents are paying for the wedding, I'm not spending a dime, I'm just showing up with my tux.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews on the memory, if I have any issues its going right back to newegg.

When I can afford it. The VapoChill will be my first purchase 5 seconds after I get the call from HR saying I got the new job. Now I need to raid MSDN and download Windows XP 64bit. I hope my VLK license works with it.

The memory isnt the issue or the problem its the compatability with NForce thats the contributing factor.

That specific memory type is on the QVL for the board. It's 2x512MB chips and Corsair swears it will work with the A8N-SLI. I heard problems with 4 dim slots of 1GB chips though.

We shall see eh...lol when you go to load the rig provided it boots correctly, load it in single channel, then add the second chip, been alot of problems with the nvidia and dual channel mode when loading for the first time. Funny thing is .....my ram isnt even listed and has never hiccuped once, Hyper X ddr 500.

I would definitely recommend Windows XP Pro 32-bit over Windows XP Pro 64-bit. 64-bit has shown basically no improvements as far as performance goes and the OS is still riddled with bugs and compatibility issues (the driver support is severly lacking). Another thing to consider is do you really need Win XP Pro? I would say the majority of it's features are useless for the average user.

How would you not pay for it? I hope you're not implying piracy because that topic is strictly forbidden at Ozzu.

Oh, as long as it's not been used by him. Why would you think the OP would be in the same situation as you though?

I have an MSDN Volume License Subscription. One payment a year and you get anything microsoft. I have XP Pro, server 2003, longhorn betas. Most are VLK capable, but the download on MSDN's site is for non-VLK 64bit.

Ok, Mobo, Memory, vid card, Proc all in the case and it posts. I have to manually tweak the latency timings, but other than that the memory functions 100%.

I need to put in the DVD and the HDD and I need to put a floppy drive in it just to load windows.

I'm going to take a break and have a gourmet dinner on the water. Take out chinese on the boat anchored on the river 200 feet from the inlet to the marina.

I'll be back later and I'll post when I get her up and running.
